Goldfield is the county seat of Esmeralda County, NV and was the site of the last great gold rush in the lower 48 states. Gold was discovered there in 1902 and the resulting boom made Goldfield the largest city in Nevada. Now the population has dwindled to less than 300. Travelers seeking services have to go north to Tonopah.
